Amazon Journey

Amazon’s mission is to raise the bar for customer experience and it claims to be world’s most customer centric company. It focuses on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence.

Joined in 2019 as a Technical Program Manager and was part of Fire OS Engineering organization.

GOAL: To improve the stability of fire tv devices and tablet devices in partnership with Engineering, QA, Product Management, Launch TPMs across US and APAC. Stability comprises of 3 aspects - App stability, framework stability and kernel stability.

Teams :

  1. There were 20+ Application development teams, firmware team, software and hardware engineering teams, quality assurance, and launch teams.

  2. Research & Development teams - Improving field to lab correlation by using modular monkey to improve the rate of crash reproduction.

Metrics:

  1. Increase MTBF by 10% YoY for all FireTVs and Tablets.

  2. Mean time between failures - Higher the better.

Apart from that, I worked on multiple other initiatives as follows -

  1. Improving the methodology to determine App/Frwk/Kernal stability for all fire tv and tablets devices released prior to 2019, in 2019 and for all upcoming releases.

  2. Develop program schedules, considering various software stack components and hardware/firmware dependencies, and build execution plans to support the timeline.

  3. Assess the technical feasibility of new fire tv and tablet versions by clarifying and analyzing requirements with software/hardware architects, technical leads, and engineers.

  4. Collaborating with Software and Hardware teams to investigate technical issues related to Fire OS, firmware for Fire TV and Tablets, Kernel, Framework using KDM tool.

  5. On weekly basis, presenting to executives program status and the plan for upcoming week.

  6. Improving field to lab correlation by using modular monkey to improve the rate of crash reproduction.

  7. Working with engineering teams and data science team to streamline stability metrics.

  8. Minimizing data discrepancy between Kindle Device Metrics tool and crashboard tool.

  9. Monitoring Framework and kernel stability for regressions and then engaging with the right teams to assess the customer impact, root cause and fix the crash thereby improve the stability of the device and enhance customer experience.
